Southampton seem to be safe after yet another victory in the Premier League this time against opposition they would have been expected to beat; not the trick they have been performing in recent weeks.
The goals in the game came via Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana and it is the former who has been recently grabbing the headlines with his excellent displays under Mauricio Pochettino.
The former Burnley man scored the opener at the Madejski to suck the momentum out of Reading’s play and condemn the man who bought him to a home debut defeat.
Nigel Adkins splashed out £7 million on the 23-year-old last summer but did not use him as much as the new man seems to.
Perhaps it is the Spanish speaking factor of the son of non-league legend Kiko Rodriguez that has seen Mauricio Pochettino take such a shine to the speedster. Indeed the bi-lingual dynamic may be helpful for the Argentine; who speaks minimal English.
Whatever the reasoning Rodriguez has been in great form for The Saints under their new management with the high pressing nature of Pochettino’s style suiting the forward.
As ever though such form breeds attention and Liverpool have been linked with his signature this week.
While we don’t believe Southampton would even consider selling the player for anything less than £15 million, which should price Liverpool out of a move; it was still interesting to take a look at what Liverpool fans made of his man-of-the-match performance in Berkshire.
Hope the Liverpool Jay Rodriguez rumours are true! In great form at the minute— Aidan Horan (@AidanHoran) April 6, 2013
For a decent price, I'd love to see Jay Rodriguez at Liverpool.— Chris Bowes (@CB_LFC18) April 6, 2013
I hear Liverpool are linked with Jay Rodriguez in the summer. Been impressed with him in the last few games.— John McDonald (@JohnMcD14) April 6, 2013
Jay Rodriguez is some player. Wouldn't mind him at Liverpool with the runs he makes. Though I wouldn't pay any more than 6 million. #JayR— Kenny Wilde (@KennyWilde___) April 6, 2013
Jay Rodriguez is quality— Joe Oliver (@joeoliver100) April 6, 2013

Would you like to see Jay Rodriguez at Anfield?
