He is responsible for coordinating Investec’s UK and European activity in natural resources with the bank’s international initiatives in the sector.
This is a new role created to consolidate Investec’s already strong position in the natural resources sector and will involve coordinating UK/European expertise with the Hong Kong, South Africa and Australia offices, with the overall global natural resources offering being overseen and chaired by Alex Snow.
Wrathall, 49, was most recently Managing Director of Resources at Salamanca Capital and has spent over 25 years working in the natural resources sector, both in investment banking and industry.
Prior to Salamanca, Wrathall worked at Renaissance Capital where he was Head of Investment Banking for its London office and had responsibility for metals and mining, focusing on Africa. In previous roles, Wrathall was Global Head of Mining Equities at Deutsche Bank where he led a #1 ranked team. He was also formerly the Global Head of Mining Equity Sales at UBS.
Having started his career as a miner working in the South African gold mining industry Wrathall went on to pursue a career in investment banking, starting as a mining analyst at Cazenove & Co in London. He has a strong understanding of the global mining industry and its interface with capital markets and has listed companies on most relevant stock exchanges, including London, the ASX, the TSX, the JSE and the HKSE.
Wrathall has served in Non-Executive Director roles in AIM listed companies focussed on Africa and was recently appointed Chairman of Glory Resources, an ASX listed gold company with assets in Greece. Wrathall is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and an Associate of the Camborne School of Mines (ACSM).
