Given his current form it seems absurd to suggest that Tottenham Hotspur could find any way to replace Gareth Bale at White Hart Lane. It is also unlikely he will leave this summer, unless Spurs fail to make it into the Champions League and another side is prepared to spend upwards of £50million for his services.
However should Bale leave, are there any players Spurs might sign that could replace his input in the team? In terms of direct replacements it would surely be impossible to find a player as good and also willing to come to White Hart Lane, but if Spurs could bring in both Joao Moutinho and Leandro Damiao, would their side be as good even without Bale?
Of course the dream would be that Spurs find a way to bring in these two long term targets alongside Bale, at least for a season, but with Daniel Levy's notoriously tight purse strings, a big transfer fee for the Welshman might be required before he spends significant sums on new players.
The Damiao transfer saga has been ridiculous at times, with Spurs linked with the Brazilian every window for the past few years. However if they could finally resolve the transfer this summer, Spurs would be bringing in one of the most exciting strikers in world football, and Damiao would likely provide the goals that Defoe and Adebayor have been unable to supply this season.
Joao Moutinho is a world class midfielder, and putting him alongside Mousa Dembele and Sandro in the centre would give Spurs one of the most formidable set ups in the Premier League.
Bale is a phenomenon, and at the moment Spurs would be mad to let him go whatever incoming transfers they had lined up. But if they could bring in Damiao and Moutinho, and if they're being greedy, Christian Eriksen as well, then they will have at least signalled their intention to compete at the highest level even without the talismanic Welshman.
What do you think? Are there any players that could replace Bale’s impact at Spurs?
