The inconsistency of Carlos Tevez should be alarming for Manchester City ahead of next season.
Whichever way you look at it City fans, you’ve been done by Manchester United this season who will have to produce a mess up of epic proportions not to secure their 20th Premier League title.
In the same way United responded to losing the title this season, City have to look at every single area which can be improved upon and make sure it is ahead of next year.
One such area is the performance and consistency of striker Carlos Tevez, someone who has come to embody the work ethic and genuine enthusiasm for everything that City are trying to achieve.
Sergio Aguero is probably the only player more important than Tevez at Manchester City, which means Tevez and the club need to pull themselves together to make it Premier League title number two over 2013/2014.
Tevez’s record of ten goals in 26 games is not all completely his fault because Roberto Mancini has changed his attacking combinations routinely this season which has failed to let the club produce a pair of attacking figureheads that can drive the side on to another title.
One of the reasons Tevez did so well at the back end of last season is because he got into the side after winning back the manager following the Bayern Munich incident, and he stayed there producing his best form over the final part of the campaign.
City need him to improve and they deserve improvements from him because they showed him a little bit of faith when other sides would still have him sat in the stands or would be looking for potential buyers.
The main way that he can improve is with that consistent attacking partnership up front, alongside Aguero which is clearly the best partnership that City have at their disposal.
It’s debateable whether that is actually going to happen because the sale of Mario Balotelli to AC Milan in the last transfer window, means there is a hole in the attack which the club will look to fill this summer.
Whoever comes in to take that extra attacking slot provides just another new partnership for Tevez to get used to and to work with.
It’s worrying how much he’s been off the boil this season because Tevez is a player that City have come to rely on in majorly important games in all competitions.
His inconsistency also piles the pressure onto Aguero, which is something Tevez won’t personally enjoy because he’s always wanted to be the main man, the striker in the spotlight grabbing all of the headlines.
Tevez needs to fire on all cylinders next season to help his teammates, the team and give City another chance at getting a Premier League title because Sir Alex Ferguson is more than likely going to ante up and strengthen even more this summer transfer window.
City fans, have you been worried by Tevez’s form?
