Reus to Arsenal May Depend on Rosicky

If Arsenal have any intention of signing Marco Reus then the deal could depend on the future of Tomas Rosicky.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has made it clear that his idol when he was growing up was Tomas Rosicky, odd considering the Czech is currently in and out of the side at the Emirates with alarming regularity.

Reus has not ruled out a move to the Premier League and Arsenal’s profile and calibre has to mean that they will be one of the teams in the hunt to sign the German, should he become available.

However, it could depend on Rosicky’s future because Reus may be less willing to move to the Gunners, if his idol has been moved on, although it’s very naïve to suggest that Arsene Wenger would retain a player simply for the sake of signing another.

“My idol was always Tomas Rosicky. He used to be phenomenal. He had such a good eye for an opening and knew where his team-mates were, and he was so quick. Rosicky had great technique and was so intelligent and mature,” Reus told the Guardian.

Rosicky has been tipped to leave Arsenal this summer after a string of injuries has prevented him from producing his very best form for the club, which has also prevented him from maintaining the consistency needed to stay in the side.

Arsenal are a big enough club and financially secure enough to go and sign a player like Reus outright, without the need of any added advantage that a third party could give them.

However, they may well need a third party like Rosicky to push through this sort of deal because Reus is rated as one of the best forward midfield players in Europe at the moment.

There are going to be some big sides interested in him, all willing to pay him good money and Dortmund a heavy fee. There will also be some that can offer him Champions League football, which is something which Arsenal may not have at the end of this season.

Therefore, Arsenal need to try and give themselves any sort of advantage they can with this sort of transfer. Whether that’s pushing the idea of Reus being able to work and play alongside Rosicky or using Rosicky himself to put in a good word to a player who has described him as his idol.

Arsenal need to make some heavyweight signings this summer, especially if they finish outside the top four and Reus should definitely be someone they should try and go after.

His stats have been phenomenal in German football this season; ten goals and nine assists in 27 Bundesliga matches. Those are figures which eclipse any of Arsenal’s current crop of midfielders.

It would be a phenomenal signing if they pulled it off and there’s no harm in using Rosicky to engineer the deal, but only if they plan to keep the Czech for next season and beyond.
