The Dutchman arrives this summer and just to get Norfolk folk more excited he banged in a terrific match-winning hat-trick against Braga on Monday
Sporting Lisbon have not had their best of seasons; not by a long shot. Usually battling for the title or at least in a comfortable European place by this stage of the season The Sportinguistas have had little to be happy about this campaign.
Not only are they currently languishing in mid-table of the 16-team division but have also been besieged by financial problems which have seen many of their biggest assets made available for transfer.
One such asset was Ricky Van Wolfswinkel. The Dutchman, with one international cap to his name has always been a long-term target of teams in the Premier League and as of next season he will be a Premier League player.
Well that is if Norwich City survive a topsy-turvy season in the top-flight. The Canaries agreed a deal to sign the 24-year-old in the summer for a fee believed to be around €10 million; breaking the clubs transfer record.
This Easter Monday he showed just why Norwich were willing to spend so much on his talents.
Sporting are mounting an unlikely late surge for the final Europa League qualification spot; and are now just three points behind Maritimo after a 3-2 victory at Braga on Monday.
Braga, who are currently fourth in the table, would have felt confident going into the fixture but they didn’t count on Van Wolfswinkel spoiling the party.
He scored all three of Sporting’s goals including a dramatic last minute winner to send the away fans into raptures.
