Tottenham Hotspur Easter round-up: Including Assou-Ekotto and Borja Valero

Assou Ekotto

News and gossip from White Hart Lane.

Tottenham had Jan Vertonghen and Gareth Bale to thank for a win over Swansea this weekend. Both combined to score sublime goals at The Liberty Stadium and despite an effort from Michu late on Spurs held on to secure a vital victory in the push for a Champions League place.

Andre Villas Boas will reportedly look to replace Benoit Assou-Ekotto this summer. The Cameroonian is not in the long-term plans of AVB and it is likely he will first look internally for a replacement - with Danny Rose on loan at Sunderland to be the first name on the list.

Tottenham will be going in for former West Brom flop Borja Valero. The 28-year-old is currently at Serie A outfit Fiorentina after an impressive stint in Spain with Mallorca and Villarreal.

AVB has reportedly sent scouts to see the player on four occasions according to the Sunday People.

Despite reports earlier in the week that Mauro Zarate was gearing up for a return to his homeland with Velez Sarsfield it is now being reported that AVB may consider the former Birmingham player.

He has been out of the team this season after falling out of favour with the Roman hierarchy and wants his contract cancelled by mutual consent. However Lazio want £5.5 million for the player.

Tottenham will have competition from West Ham for left-back target Samuel Umtiti. The Lyon defender has been an ever present in the Ligue 1 side and impressed against Spurs in the Europa League. Including scoring a sensational volley at White Hart Lane.

And finally Napoli look to be ready to beat Spurs to the signature of Brazilian international Leandro Damiao; who they see as the perfect replacement for Edinson Cavani.
