Liverpool fans react on Twitter to stunning Gerrard goal-line clearance

Steven Gerrard won man of the match in the win at Villa Park; and it was his incredible save off the line that secured the victory.

Liverpool came from behind to defeat Aston Villa today with goals from Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard (penalty) proving the difference after Christian Benteke had fired the home team into a first-half lead.

But it was Steven Gerrard; the Liverpool captain who pulled his side through the mire by the scruff of the neck.

He really grabbed control of the game and after Nathan Baker stupidly gave Luis Suarez more than enough contact to go down in a quivering heap in the corner of the penalty area he duly stepped up and dispatched the corner into the bottom right of Brad Guzan’s goal from 12 yards.

But perhaps his more telling moment of brilliance came at the other end of the pitch. Villa were still well and truly in the game until the final whistle and when Benteke met a corner with a ferocious header it seemed he had grabbed his and Villa’s vital second of the afternoon to complete a brilliant Easter Sunday result for Paul Lambert’s men.

Then, out of nowhere, Stevie G flew across the goal to majestically header the ball away at full stretch. When the final MOTD of the season rocks around I won’t be surprised to see Gerrards’s name mentioned among with Artur Boruc, Simon Mignolet and Asmir Begovic in the save of the season category.

It was that good.

Here is the reaction from Twitter…
