Chelsea Easter round-up: Including Mourinho and Ronaldo

News and gossip from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have lost ground in the Champions League pursuit as Southampton won 2-1 at St Marys. Rafa Benitez made changes to his team ahead of the Easter Monday FA Cup tie with Manchester United and it showed as an abject performance saw Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez score the vital goals over a John Terry header.

Benitez has been defending his selection for the game suggesting he had no choice but to rotate the squad ahead of the game. He also had Gary Cahill and Juan Mata out of the game with injury and illness respectively.

Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie has warned fans not to expect much from the game as the tight schedule will see tired players play out a struggle of a game. He says it certainly won’t be a classic and questioned the decision to put the game so close to Premier League fixtures.

The Express believe that Jose Mourinho will definitely return to Stamford Bridge this summer and wants to bring a countryman with him … Cristiano Ronaldo.

The two have an excellent working relationship at Real Madrid and the two may see the revitalisation of Chelsea once and for all.

Chelsea are reportedly ready to join the race for Christian Eriksen. Liverpool are the favourites for the player after Marc Overmars admitted they had been watching him closely this season meanwhile Tottenham also retain a vested interest.

Chelsea however see him as the perfect replacement for Frank Lampard.

On the site we have investigated whether Marko Marin has been the Premier League’s worst buy of the season and whether Chelsea are looking to replicate the success of Luis Suarez’s move to Liverpool with their pursuit of Wilfried Bony.
