Morgan made a pretty praising comment to the Ivorian on Twitter after his excellent performance against Reading. But rewind to before the international break and it was an entirely different rhetoric
What a difference a weekend makes. With one eye on the FA Cup replay against Manchester United this Easter Monday both Manchester United and Chelsea decided to give those players necessary a day off to recharge after the international break.
While United’s back-up brigade made light work of relegation threatened Sunderland Chelsea were made to pay by the mercurial Southampton side who claimed yet another scalp against top opposition under Mauricio Pochettino.
With this in mind Arsenal’s 4-1 romp against relegation doomed Reading had added meaning. Along with Tottenham’s victory at the Liberty Stadium you now have to believe that Chelsea are struggling to hold on to their grip in the Champions League places.
At the end of the day that may all be due to the efforts of a certain Gervinho.
The much maligned Ivorian has had some stick this season; including from myself. Earlier in the week I suggested that the £12 million being quoted as an asking price for an interested party in Turkish outfit Galatasaray was an early April Fools Day prank.
Well credit where credit is due as the former Lille forward had a hand in three of the goals yesterday.
First of all he scored one himself and he was then ready to return the favour by laying the ball on the plate for Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud to grab the goals.
It had Arsenal fans convinced that Messi had put on a Gervinho mask and wig before taking to the field as an Arsenal mercenary.
It was certainly a surprise to Arsenal fans on Twitter … but apparently not Piers Morgan who seemed to suggest he always had such a performance in him.
Now I am not entirely sure that is true Piers?
Back on March 16th this was the Tweet you let us all see…
Gervinho & Ramsey warming up - here comes the Calamity Cavalry. #Arsenal— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) March 16, 2013
But yesterday you went with something a little bit different.
Either your tongue was firmly in cheek or you really do think you are the king of spin???
Arsenal fans, Morgan included, will hope to see plenty more of the same from Gervinho.
