Vincent Kompany has done nothing wrong

Vincent Kompany PL Trophy

Vincent Kompany has done nothing wrong going away with Belgium during the international break - Despite his manager's complaints.

Roberto Mancini has criticised Vincent Kompany's decision to play for Belgium against his wishes:

"I am disappointed. I said to him: 'Stay here to have more treatment but don't go to play because it would be taking a risk for us because these next two months are really important'."

Kompany, who had not played for City for over a month, ignored his manager's wishes and played 90 minutes for Belgium in their 1-0 win over Macedonia in midweek, and fortunately for him, came through unscathed.

Tension had started to build between the City captain and his manager after his fitness was declared good enough for him to play for Belgium in this latest round of World Cup qualifiers.

That comes after Mancini had said the opposite, that he wasn’t quite ready and that he needed a little more time before he would be able to play at his normally high effective level for the rest of the season.

It’s not ideal when you have to of the most important people at the club at odds with each other, with Kompany last season's Barclays Player of the Year.

There’s no secret motives behind what Kompany is doing and he’s not trying to create a situation for himself where he’d be able to force a move away from the club for next season, he simply wanted to play for his country.

He’s just being logical. He realises that it was special for City to turn over an eight point gap at the back end of last season and they only won the title based on a single goal.

Therefore, when the gap is nearly twice as big this time round, he has little to fight for at City and is not jeopardising much save for his relationship with Mancini, and the way Belgium are building their Golden Generation ahead of the World Cup is something special the City captain wants to play a huge role in.

United have reacted positively to losing the title and now the shoe is on the other foot. City are going to face several more challenges over the coming weeks and months so they need their boss to realise that Kompany isn’t being awkward and Belgium haven’t done anything wrong.

City fans would do you make of the pair at the moment?
