Isn’t it a bit early for April Fool’s Day pranks?
I mean I am all for a bit of jovial tomfoolery but only on the day. I mean yesterday morning the news that Galatasaray were readying a £12 million bid for Gervinho is what greeted me and quite frankly I have never read something more ridiculous; Gervinho…£12 million.
I mean the £11 million Arsenal spent on the Ivorian now seems a bloated amount considering his somewhat average ability on the football pitch.
For me Gervinho going to Gala has to be up there with the Swiss spaghetti harvest of 1957 or the Curious Case of Sidd Finch in 1985.
But as I maintain; leave the April Fool’s day jokes till April 1st.
Plus make them almost believable.
Nobody really believes anyone would be willing to spend a whopping £12 million on a player who has so far failed to live up to anything near his original price tag at The Emirates.
We know that Galatasaray are doing well to reach the elite of European football once again with their talented Turkish internationals peppered with a touch of Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder to boot.
The Istanbul outfit are of course in the final-eight of the Champions League and look forward to locking horns with Manchester United’s conquerors Real Madrid at the beginning of April.
But £12 million on Gervinho.
Spare me … next you will be telling me Arsenal are after somebody like, I don’t know Martin Skrtel. Oh wait apparently they are.
Or that Andrei Arshavin; who has made his intentions to stay in England clear is off to the furthest corner of Europe to play in Azerbaijan; oh wait that is also happening.
Save it for Monday everybody.
