Arsenal have been linked with a move for Heerenveen teenager Rewan Amin.
Rewan Amin is a 17-year-old currently rated as the best prospect at Dutch club Heerenveen. He’s an extremely talented midfielder, which is why Arsenal seem keen to snap him up before any of their rivals move.
Arsenal have a superb history of taking younger players from other top European sides, nurturing them through the club’s youth system before injecting them into the first team and giving them a chance to progress.
Amin certainly ticks all of the right boxes for the club and they shouldn’t be afraid of spending to make sure they get him, especially considering the current cash reserves the club has to fall back on.
So what can he bring to the table for the club? Well firstly, his pace is absolutely lethal and a reason why he regularly gets called into the Dutch Under-17 squad where he is yet to score his first goal.
He’s a very good all rounded midfield player; he can control the ball and retain possession well and he has great control in terms of his passing, both short and long which makes him effective on the counter attack or getting the ball away from trouble.
What also goes in Arsenal’s favour here is the fact that he is yet to make his senior debut for Heerenveen which means he’s not going to be affected substantially by the style of another league or team.
In short, Arsenal could buy him, get him into their youth teams and teach him how to play football the Arsenal way as opposed to needing to change his mentality and philosophy on the game.
It also means that he’s been protected well by the Dutch club in terms of his fitness. It can be very tempting to over play a player of his quality at a young age, especially when his potential is there for all to see.
The only stumbling block here is that the player has not given any indication that he’s looking to move outside Dutch football. Heerenveen will always be open to a big money offer because he’s not an integral first team member just yet.
It’s a risk for Arsenal but then so was Cesc Fabregas when they bought him from Barcelona as a teenager and they turned him into one of the best midfield men in the world.
Fortunately for the club they have one of the best managers going in Arsene Wenger when it comes to developing players like this.
Worth a gamble?
