Although there are still a couple of months of the season to go, it is fair to say that plenty of Chelsea fans already have an eye on the summer, when they are hoping to not only address their need for a top class striker, but also replace the beleaguered Rafa Benitez.
Along with their pursuit of Falcao, there is a chance that Chelsea might go in for the 22 year old Germany international Andre Schurrle, who they have been linked with on several occasions in the past.
They might well have been aided in this pursuit by the reports in Germany that Schurrle has a £15million release clause that will come into effect in the summer of 2014.
Whilst this is still some time away, the figures that had already been mentioned with regards to his transfer were closer to £20million, and if Chelsea can use the fact that Leverkusen will shave to let Schurrle leave for £15m next year, they might be able to push through a deal this summer.
Despite only being 22, Schurrle has already played 22 times for the German national side, which is currently chock full of excellent young players. The Leverkusen forward can play either on the flank of an attack or through the centre, and his dribbling ability is superb.
Whilst he has not been prolific this season, contributing six goals and five assists in the Bundesliga Schurrle adds to his attacking threat with his tireless work rate pressuring the opposition defence and midfield.
Chelsea already have several excellent players in Schurrle's position, and he could end up competing with Eden Hazard for the left flank spot in their attack, but given the flexibility of their attacking midfielders it would not be difficult to see him incorporated into the side alongside Juan Mata and the Belgian.
Chelsea fans could be set for one of their most exciting summers yet, and if they bring in Falcao and Jose Mourinho then there will be no complaints if that is there only business before next season. However Andre Schurrle has the potential to be world class player, and if they have the option to bring him in this summer there it would be an almost equally fine signing for the Blues.
