Goal.com has suggested that Manchester United would be willing to sell Nemanja Vidic to AC Milan this summer.
Nemanja Vidic is one of the most important players to Manchester United so it's easy question to why they would be willing to let their captain join another of Europe's biggest teams.
Goal.com has reported that United would be open to a transfer for Vidic this summer in the region of £12 million, which seems like a fee which is hardly here nor there to United compared to the defender's talent.
The legitimacy of this rumour is unclear but Vidic is so important to United and Sir Alex Ferguson that it would be remarkable if the Scot let him walk away from the club.
This rumour may only have come up because his contract is due to expire next summer, which means the club would sell him if they didn’t think he had a future at Old Trafford.
What is more likely is that United will start work on a new deal this summer, which will likely keep the 31-year-old at the club for the rest of his career.
Vidic has been unfortunate through injuries that he has not produced his best form over the last two seasons for the club, but his leadership and what he expects from his teammates has never been more important.
United are now going to be constantly challenged from all angles as Manchester City have plenty to spend and there will be a Chelsea resurgence just around the corner, if Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge.
The sense in weakening the back four is completely irrational when considering United are entering an era of football, where they need that section of the team to be as strong as possible.
As a defender Vidic remains one of the best in the team and someone that United would struggle to replace.
Granted, he doesn’t have the pace he once did but his strength, aggression and attitude is still an example to all of the younger defenders United now have competing for places on a regular basis.
These rumours seem to be nothing more than fabrication and it would be a total and utter surprise if United allowed Vidic to leave. It would even make more sense for them to hang onto him for an extra year and let him leave for nothing because he’s that important.
United fans, what do you make of these rumours?
