How far will Wayne Rooney go to prove a point?

Wayne Rooney revisits the scene of the crime tonight against Montenegro. Can he keep a calm head?

According to the rumour mill, Sir Richard Branson has arranged a flight on one of his new space ships for Rio Ferdinand so that he can broadcast a commentary from the International Space Station.

This is as yet unconfirmed although Roy Hodgson has apparently told some folk who were waiting for a bus, that if this is indeed the case, as far as he’s concerned Rio can stay up there or do a Felix Baumgartner without the parachute.

So, Wayne Rooney, Montenegro, all over again….. Wayne’s teammates have all come out to say how much he has matured, how he’s not the same person he was back then, how he’ll without a doubt be all right on the night.

I wonder what he makes of it all, how he feels about going back to the scene of the crime. If I remember correctly there was an awful lot going on in his personal life back then, he and his family were making the headlines for all the wrong reasons, Fabio said that wouldn’t be an issue but we all know that didn’t turn out to be the case.

What Wayne did was unnecessary; it didn’t advance his or England’s cause one iota and there were rippling ramifications that extended well beyond that match.

Having scoured the papers today there’s no negative mentions of Wazza or his family, the only stories are the ‘will he, won’t he’ behave himself ones.

I suspect the match will go in England’s favour, I’m going to go out on a limb and say Rooney will try and prove a point by covering every blade of grass at least twice, but will probably be ineffectual to the point where it will be one of his teammates who will influence the game and secure the points.

But again, like the Rio Ferdinand, part time astronaut rumour, my musings are purely speculation.

Enjoy the game, and Rooney, if you’re reading this, behave!
