Newcastle United have more French international squad players than French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Alan Pardew has worked the French transfer market very well. It’s an area he seems to know inside out at the moment, which probably annoys Arsene Wenger at Arsenal because he’s grabbed Newcastle some real bargain players.
It may surprise many to learn that Newcastle actually have more French international players than Paris Saint-Germain, one of the growing giants of the French and European games.
“We’ve got the Dutch national keeper and more players in the French side than any other club including PSG and whoever else you want to name in France,” said Pardew as per themag.co.uk.
It’s a very impressive fact and something that Newcastle fans should be very excited about, because the indications are that Pardew is only going to add even more quality to the squad this summer and in the future.
The only obvious danger is that considering Newcastle’s league position and context, any international break leaves them in potentially more danger than most other sides.
Any team that has a high ratio of players at international level, risks those players going away for international games and picking up injuries, which will rule them out of club duty.
The core of French players at Newcastle has helped Pardew to create a real blend of quality, which can be used to bring through and develop younger players in the side.
It also makes Newcastle very appealing for other French players or French speaking players that would have otherwise been put off of a move to the North East of England, through the fact that communication would be a problem.
The big change that Newcastle need to make is adding strength and depth to the squad, which will allow the side to challenge for the top places in the Premier League next season.
Newcastle started the current campaign well but feel away once injuries started to plague the squad, making it impossible for them to maintain any sort of consistency in the league.
They’re definitely onto something in the way that Pardew looks at not just the French market, but most other top markets around Europe and the future is very bright if the side can secure safety as quickly as possible.
Then there is the Europe League adventure.
Newcastle fans, what do you make of this fact?
