''Odd things happen at FIFA'' - New vote-rigging scandal hits the organisation

Mourinho Dugout

Goran Pandev says he voted for Jose Mourinho but his slip begs to differ. Was the Coach of the Year vote rigged for Vicente del Bosque to win?

There has been considerable doubt in the past over potential vote rigging at FIFA in regards to the process for the selection of the recent World Cup’s.

That has been swept under the carpet now as, as ever, people quickly forget about such trivial things as these.

But a new rigging scandal has now hit world footballs organisational body; in regards to the Ballon D’Or ‘Coach of the Year’ award.

Jose Mourinho has called the voting process into question, assumingly because he himself did not win the prestigious prize.

But is just another case of the wounded ego of Mourinho spitting out his dummy and throwing his toys out the pram?

The award was eventually won by Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque but Mourinho was nonplussed about the event; as he feels it is definitely rigged:

"I don't regret not attending the event in person. One, two or three people called me to say they had voted for me and in the end another name appeared in their votes. Therefore I decided not to go."

While many people quickly dismiss the claims of Mourinho as whimsical fantasies and delusions of grandeur this time it seems something has stuck; after he received the public backing of a former player of his.

Macedonia captain Goran Pandev was entitled to vote due to his standing in the national team but he was aghast at the ‘apparent’ voting form he handed in; as he is adamant he voted for Mourinho.

“I voted for Mourinho as best Coach of the year and I am convinced that strange things happened when the votes were counted. According to the FIFA list I voted for Vicente Del Bosque, but I voted for Mourinho. I even called him and said I’d vote for him. Unfortunately, odd things happen at FIFA.”

FIFA have responded by making Pandev’s voting sheet public but essentially this is not proof as forging a fake form would not be a difficult piece of manipulation for a multi-national organisation.

FIFA have strongly contested the claims and you can see the voting slip below…

Bitter Mourinho or crooked FIFA? You decide?
