Sandro's perfect opportunity to 'tap up' Leandro Damiao

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro is back training with Internacional.

When Sandro was injured and subsequently ruled out for the rest of the season in January it was a huge blow for Tottenham.

But they could now just be able to turn it into an opportunity.

With his knee injury taking months rather than weeks to heal, the Brazilian has returned to his homeland to recuperate in the country he knows best, surrounded by friends and family.

He undertaking the medical side of his rehabilitation with his former club Internacional, who he left in 2010 to join Spurs after helping them win South America's most prestigious prize, the Copa Libertadores.

He said: "It will help me a lot being in an environment I know. Tottenham know Internacional's staff and how they treat the players, so that helped them release me."

So Spurs have done something for him, how about he returns the favour:

This presents him with the perfect opportunity to speak with former colleague Leandro Damiao, who has been linked with Spurs ever since they originally brought Sandro over.

The striker scored 16 goals for his club last season, and was top scorer in the Olympic tournament. He was again a target for Tottenham in January, with the club said to have enquired about the player - and they were thought to be in with a chance of signing him right up to deadline day.

Clearly what they need to do is to convince the player that Tottenham should be his next destination. Whenever Damiao has spoken in the media he has been relatively lukewarm regarding Spurs, or any particular club, simply commenting he intends to move to Europe at some stage without being any more specific than that.

Sandro has an opportunity to tell him first-hand about life in London, the facilities at Spurs, the competitiveness of the team, and playing under the management of Andre Villas-Boas.

It will require his best sales pitch, but if he does it right, sending him to Brazil for his recovery could be the wisest decision Spurs have made in 2013. Who know, he could be working undercover for Daniel Levy?
