Emmanuel Eboue to return to the Emirates...

Arsenal are busy preparing their pre-season preparations and will welcome back an old face.

The season is not over but clubs have to start planning for their pre-seasons, and for Arsenal that means inviting top European teams to compete with them at the Emirates Cup.

The annual tournament is seen as the club's curtain raiser to the new season, and three clubs have been invited by the Gunners.

They are reported to be Real Madrid, Juventus, and Galatasaray, three Champions League quarter-finalists.

It certainly means there will be a number of star players at the Emirates Cup on display; if the clubs bring their top stars then Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil of Madrid could be in action, while Juventus' confirmed summer signing Fernando Llorente could make his debut at the tournament.

Galatasaray are not short of big names themselves nowadays, with Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba among their high profile stars.

And then there is Emmanuel Eboue.

The Ivory Coast right-back was a starter in the Champions League Final in Paris in 2006 for the Gunners and spent six years at the club.

He was picked up as a bargain by Arsene Wenger from Belgian club Beveren and replaced Lauren at right-back for the club.

Eboue eventually fell out of favour by nature of his careless tackling and limited attacking ability and at one stage was even booed by sections of the club's support.

That has all changed nowadays; largely thanks to a popular Twitter spoof account purporting to be the Ivorian, which has more than 30,000 followers. It has seen him retrospectively turn into a cult figure among the Arsenal faithful, and there are likely some who believe it to be the real deal.

Well the real Eboue will get his chance to show what he can do in front of the Arsenal crowd this summer, providing Galatasaray accept the invite, and wouldn't it be something if the defender was able to bring with him a Champions League medal to show off?

Are you looking forward to Eboue coming back? What are your memories of him?
