Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson could receive a touchline ban from UEFA for failing to honour his media obligations in the aftermath of United’s devastating and controversial Champions League last-16 defeat to Real Madrid at Old Trafford.
Nani who was dismissed from the field in the fixture earlier this month by referee Cuneyt Cakir could also face further punishment from the Champions League governing body who could extend his mandatory one-game suspension.
In team news, Robin van Persie could be benched this weekend for United’s trip to Sunderland in the Premier League after suffering a goal-draught by his own sensational standards.
The Dutchman has netted just one goal in his last 6 league appearances.
Meanwhile, veteran defender Rio Ferdinand is expected to open negotiations with the club over a new contract.
Whilst negotiations have yet to commence it is understood his decision to pull-out of Roy Hodsgon’s England squad earlier this week will ‘strengthen his position’ in upcoming talks.
Another United veteran contemplating his future is Paul Scholes who is currently deliberating over whether to sign a one-year extension on his current contract to keep him at Old Trafford until 2015.
It is understood he will make his decision once his recovery from his knee injury has been fully assessed.

In transfer news, Borussia Dortmund are apparently still ardently trying to convince United target Robert Lewandowski to stay.
