Kevin de Bruyne: 'Happy to stay in Germany'

The future of Chelsea ace Kevin de Bruyne has taken another twist.

Yesterday we were able to offer Chelsea fans good news when it came to Kevin de Bruyne.

The talented winger has been impressing at Werder Bremen, with six goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga.

But after Werder posted a financial loss in their annual figures recently, their sporting director this week announced they would not be able to afford him.

They admitted their only hope was to convince Chelsea to let him on loan for another year - and this is now an idea the player himself is backing, but Leverkusen and Wolfsburg are also interested.

In quotes carried by Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad, the attacker, on international duty with his country this week, said he is perfectly happy to remain in the Bundesliga.

He said: "I feel that in Germany I have grown physically. I only missed three minutes this season. Initially I had found it hard to make 90 minutes, but now we sometimes finish before I am even overly tired.

"I know there are teams interested, I am informed by my agent and Chelsea. It is good that there is much interest, it shows that I have a good season behind me.

"Chelsea will decide. If Chelsea deem I'm not ready then so. If I want to be loaned, I can of course choose where. But otherwise I cannot predict where I can play.

"I am pleasantly surprised about the level in Germany. Each match is top. I am therefore not reluctant to an additional year in Germany. In addition to the Premier League, the Bundesliga is the best competition at present."

It is interesting to see the Belgian speak so candidly about his future, many players simply don't offer anything by way of indication as to their situations.

As far as the long game goes, De Bruyne is still keen on Chelsea and playing a part there, but if they want to send him back on loan, clearly he will not object one bit.

How do you see this one playing out?
