Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Shaw and Carroll

All the latest Tottenham Hotspur news and gossip.

It is international week and Tottenham have an astounding 20 players off on international duty when under-21 and under-19 games are taken into account, with World Cup qualifiers taking place on Friday and next Tuesday. Under-21 games will be played on Thursday night with Tom Carroll likely to feature for England. Among the notable fixtures is Cameroon v Togo, which will see Spurs teammates Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Emmanuel Adebayor do battle.

Carroll has been speaking to Tottenham's website about how he was pleased with his performance after coming off the bench against Fulham, but those feelings were overrode by the team losing 1-0 to Fulham.

He added: "We’ll look to kick on again after the international break. We’ve some big characters in there and I’m confident we can do it.”

Interesting analysis from the fixture compiled by statisticians Squawka, reveals a Spurs player played more long balls than any other individial last weekend, yes including Stoke playes, in their efforts to overhaul Fulham - with Kyle Naughton the culprit.

With the battle for a Champions League spot set to intensify after the break, we have taken a look at five fixtures which are likely to be decisive in the race to finish in the top four.

The Haringey Independent are reporting that Tottenham want to tie up a deal for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, who has impressed this season after breaking into the Saints first team at just 17. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have previously been linked, but the paper claim Andre Villas-Boas is well aware of the young full-back and is preparing an early bid. The report goes onto add AVB has been unconvinced by the performances of Benoit Assou-Ekotto since his return from injury.

On HITC today we have been asking if Daniel Levy's failure to sign a striker in January is going to come back and bite them. Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe have netted just once in 16 games between them, and need to kick on when the Premier League resumes.

And finally, former Spurs right-back Alan Hutton says he is confident he can deal with the threat of Gareth Bale when Scotland take on Wales - having had the perfect preparation in Cristiano Ronaldo. Unfortunately for the Scot, Mallorca were thumped 5-2 with Ronaldo scoring, along with another of Hutton's former teammates Luka Modric.
