Twitter reactions to Michael Owen’s Retirement

Owen Goal

The fans and the famous have reacted to the news that Michael Owen will be hanging up his boots at the end of the season.

Michael Owen entered the modern game as one of the most exciting young prospects in English football. He exits it as a model professional and slightly as a case of what might have been were it not for persistent injury problems which held him back.

He’s responsible for some of the best moments for English fans in recent history and some of the best drunken celebrations that many will ever have experienced watching their country at major tournaments.

He also played for some top club sides during his career; Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle United and Manchester United. He will be missed.

@GaryLineker - Michael Owen to retire at the end of the season. One of England's greatest goal scorers, and a good bloke too. Wish him well.

@mrdanwalker - @themichaelowen I look forward to reading the blog later this week boss. Was it your Football Focus debut that forced the issue? :)
