Petr Cech is being linked with a summer move to the Gunners according to The Mail.
Arsenal are reportedly readying an offer which will allow Cech to move away from Stamford Bridge easing the pressure on Chelsea with regards to talented Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
While it would undoubtedly be a fantastic move for the Gunners, there isn’t really too much to read into these fresh rumours because there are so many things wrong with them, it’s a little confusing as to know where to start.
Firstly, Cech has been at Chelsea for a number of years, he is the undoubted number one there, despite the emergence of Courtois, and the club has a much better chance of winning silverware at the moment than Arsenal.
It would also be a massive risk for Chelsea to bring back a young and talented goalkeeper, in order to axe one of their most experienced players. Courtois has plenty of talent but then so does Cech and he’s shown it consistently since he moved to Stamford Bridge.
The only way this deal could possibly go through is down to two possible factors; a breaking point in relation to Courtois or Roman Abramovich.
Extremely efficient goalkeepers with a solid all round game are very difficult to come by. Courtois has a complete game in the respect that he’s commanding, he’s a good shot stopper and his distribution is superb.
If his return to Chelsea depends on first team football and being the number one at the club, Chelsea have to weigh up how potentially good he may be because axing Cech would be another amazing decision criticised by fans.
If Abramovich steps in and demands that Courtois returns to the club because he likes him, thinks he’s a good player etc then the club may not have any choice but to once again give in to the demands of the owner.
Abramovich has made no secret of the fact he’s willing to make big decisions as the owner of the team, regardless of the stick and criticism it gets him from the press or sections of Chelsea supporters.
It’s all down to Chelsea because if Arsenal could realistically go after this deal, they wouldn’t think twice about doing so. It just doesn’t seem like it’s ever going to happen because of Cech’s status.
Arsenal and Chelsea fans, what do you make of these rumours?
