Joey Barton’s Twitter Chronicles: Rio Ferdinand

Joey Barton Interview

Joey Barton has leapt to the defence of Rio Ferdinand via his Twitter account.

Joey Barton has never been afraid to say what he thinks and what he likes. He has defended Rio Ferdinand’s decision to withdraw from the latest England squad, suggesting it deserves England right for treating him the way they have.

Ferdinand had been recalled for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro over the course of the next week and a half but he has since withdrawn, citing injury as the reason.

However, some have questioned the legitimacy of this claim and suggested that Ferdinand has deliberately pulled out, because of the way he was treated by Roy Hodgson when he first took the job as England boss.

Can't blame @rioferdy5 really can you? If they had treated you and your family like that, would you do them any favours? #Wouldntofthoughtso – Barton said via Twitter.

You have to bear in mind Barton’s reputation for saying exactly what he likes and also the fact he feels mistreated by England himself, which means he’ll stick the knife in wherever he can.

He’s made only one England appearance during his career which is bound to leave a bitter taste in his mouth, because when he’s at his very best, he can still cut it with the best of them and is one of the most effective aggressive middle men in the game.

England now have a bit of a dilemma heading into their next two qualifiers because Hodgson is without Ferdinand and Everton defender Phil Jagielka, who has been a cornerstone of his England sides so far.

England will go into both qualifiers as the massive favourites, despite the fact they trail Montengro currently in the group as they have drawn a game which the Montenegrins have won.

It’ll be interesting to see what Barton comes up with next, especially if England lose either of the qualifiers they are expected to comfortably win.
