Michael Appleton's appointment at Blackburn was always one built on quick sand.
He was Rovers' third permanent manager of the campaign after Steve Kean and Henning Berg, and they were his third club after Portsmouth and Blackpool.
With Rovers' chances of promotion already seemingly past by the wayside, concern has turned to ensuring safety; they sit on 46 points just four points above relegation.
Blackburn's controversial owners the Venkys are predictably attracting much of the ire, and while they will feel they had to act to put the club back on the right track, the decision to appoint the inexperienced Appleton is also under scrutiny.
Reserve team coach Gary Bowyer will take charge until the end of the season.
What do the poor Blackburn fans make of this sorry saga? We took to Twitter to find out...
Great decision from the Venkys for once. Michael Appleton wasn't doing a good job was he? Style of play under him was horrendous #brfc— Shoaib(@Crouchyyy) March 19, 2013
Seriously? What the hell is the point in us sacking Appleton now!? I despair I really do. We are worse than Chelsea #BRFC— Dave Wilson (@Peeweedave) March 19, 2013
Cannot believe Appleton has been sacked. He was a manager looking to rebuild the club. Can Venky's not see that our team is just poor? #brfc— Shaun Cook (@f1scook) March 19, 2013
Sacking Appleton is another massive mistake by Venkys. What manager worth his salt is going to want to manage our joke of a club?! #BRFC— Liam Nathan Holden (@lnholden) March 19, 2013
Appleton sacked ? Our club is turning into a laughing stock #BRFC— Steven Richmond (@SRichmond3) March 19, 2013
What do you think of what is going on at Blackburn?
