News and gossip from The Emirates.
Arsenal will fight with Chelsea and Manchester United for the services of Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic this summer. United are keen to add another goalkeeping dimension to their current squad in order to provide competition to the in-form David De Gea.
Arsenal will also be in the race as they look for a number one keeper to challenge Wojciech Szczesny as their current number one replacement Lukasz Fabianski’s contract expires in the summer and Vito Mannone is expected to court a move back to his Italian homeland.
Per Mertesacker has angrily rubbished rumours he could leave The Emirates in the summer. The German international has found himself linked with a move to Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg this summer due to his previous working relationship with the clubs sporting director.
He says he has the full respect of Arsene Wenger and no desire to leave while that is intact. He went on to have a swipe at the British media.
Any move to bring in Edinson Cavani was given extra unlikeliness this evening as his current club Napoli insisted they would sell him - if some ‘nutter’ was willing to pay £60 million for the player. Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have also been linked with his signature over the past few months but despite Wenger being promised a ‘warchest’ for the summer it seems this is one player being priced out of their range.
Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky has admitted his frustration at not getting enough first-team football at the club this season. The 32-year-old said it was natural for him to want to play more often and made it clear that he was not currently suffering from any injury problems.
He went on to say he would be doing everything in his power to help the side overtake North London rivals Spurs into fourth place.
After looking like missing out on David Villa yesterday it is being reported today that Wenger has a new set of Barca players in his sights. Former Gunner Alex Song, Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez and young Spanish full-back Martin Montoya are reportedly the interest of a triple raid by The Gunners.
Finally and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain believes that the English youngsters of Arsenal FC can form the core of the future England team. The likes of ‘The Ox’, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Carl Jenkinson have all been capped at international level and he hopes that they will continue to represent their country together for years to come.
