Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Sigurdsson admission and Dempsey fitness update

All the latest Tottenham Hotspur news, views and gossip

Tottenham are reeling from their surprise home loss to Fulham yesterday, a match which Andre Villas-Boas admitted has allowed Arsenal right back into the race for a Champions League place. If Arsenal win their game in hand then they will be just one point behind Spurs with eight games to play each.

The boss has said Spurs 'cannot hide' from the failure of last season, and has demanded a reaction from his players over the coming weeks, stating they will re-group over the international break.

Spurs face a tough run of fixtures over the next month, against Swansea, Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea, with Europa League quarter-finals against Basel sandwiched in-between. Tottenham's match against Chelsea on April 14th could be postponed if the Blues beat Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Gylfi Sigurdsson says he is not feeling down, and the club are feeling positive that Champions League qualification still remains very much in their hands. He admitted that the extra-time played away to Inter on Thursday night was a contributory factor in Spurs' lack of sharpness against Fulham.

Clint Dempsey is hoping to get back to full fitness, after returning as an unused substitute against former club Fulham. He has been called up by USA for their World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica and international boss and Spurs legend Jurgen Klinsmann has indicated he plans on using him. The news could be good for Spurs in that it allows him to regain match fitness, but the negative is he could re-aggravate his calf injury by returning too soon.

Inter Milan have been charged over the racist behaviour of their fans in relation to the tie at the San Siro last week against Spurs. Striker Emmanuel Adebayor was the subject of abuse from sections of the crowd, with inflatable bananas brought into the stadium. The case against the club will not be heard until April 19.

Young starlet Tom Carroll came off the bench against Fulham, and we have looked at why the midfielder deserves more chances between now and the end of the season, despite the intensity of the fixtures ahead.

We have also taken a look at the problems Spurs are facing with Aaron Lennon injured, and the impressive performance from reported wing target Antoine Griezman, who bagged two goals for Real Sociedad at the weekend in La Liga.
