Liverpool latest: Including Southampton reaction and Sterling

All of the latest Liverpool news.

Liverpool have rejected loan bids from Leeds United, Cardiff City and Bolton Wanderers for winger Raheem Sterling. Sterling was recently dropped from the first team, thought to be suffering with fatigue which has led to speculation that the club will send him out on loan for the rest of the season.

Brendan Rodgers blames the weekend defeat against Southampton on not having Jamie Carragher. Martin Skrtel came back into the side to partner Daniel Agger with Rodgers piling the pressure onto his centre backs suggesting Carragher’s absence spoke volumes.

Liverpool are thought to be in a battle with Chelsea to sign Real Madrid left back Fabio Coentrao. The Sunday papers have suggested that Liverpool may choose to go after the player, which will release Jose Enrique to play a left midfield role when needed.

The latest round of paper rumours have suggested that Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez will snub the Premier League sides interested in him. Sanchez was being linked with a move to Liverpool but fresh reports have suggested Inter Milan in Serie A as his next destination.

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has withdrawn from the Wales squad for the World Cup qualifying matches against Scotland and Croatia. Allen was ruled out of action for Liverpool for the rest of the season with a shoulder problem, before he was selected for the Wales team.

Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has suggested the club should go after Bayern Munich centre back Dante. Liverpool were soundly beaten by Southampton over the weekend, which has highlighted defensive weaknesses and Nicol has suggested the Brazilian is the answer.

Jordan Henderson says the club’s Champions League hopes are still alive. Liverpool were beaten by Southampton over the weekend, which has knocked them back slightly in the race for fourth place but the midfield man says there is still everything to play for.

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez remains the favourite with the bookies to take the golden boot award. Suarez retained his three goal advantage over Robin Van Persie over the weekend, which has seen his odds shorten slightly to end the season as the top scorer in the Premier League.

Stewart Downing says the shock of being told he could leave Liverpool was the inspiration he needed to revitalise his form. Downing has been a key player for the first team this year after being told last December by Brendan Rodgers that he was free to leave if he could find a club.
