Fascinating developments from Italy for Arsenal regarding Jovetic and Aubameyang

Jovetic Fiorentina

Arsenal have been linked with signing both Stevan Jovetic and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but their pursuits have taken a new twist.

The list of strikers linked with Arsenal is a virtual revolving door at times, with Huntelaar, Villa and Ba top targets in January before landing up either staying at their current clubs or moving to Chelsea.

Two players who have kept the rumour mill spinning in recent weeks at the Emirates are Stevan Jovetic and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Both strikers are highly rated, Jovetic has 12 goals in 24 Serie A games this season for Fiorentina while Aubameyang, the cheaper option, has 16 in 27 Ligue One appearances.

Jovetic has been linked with Arsenal strongly since January, with both the Telegraph and the Mail insisting he is Arsene Wenger's top summer target to reinvigorate his attack, and the Gunners have been credited with weekly scouting missions to catch the forward in action.

Likewise Aubayemang is an exciting St Etienne striker who has blossomed this season and been connected with a move to the Emirates by several papers over the past fortnight.

It is though unlikely Arsenal will sign both, so fans may be interested to learn of the latest developments. While the Mirror are today claiming Aubameyang wants to join PSG, with Chelsea and Newcastle also interested, another news outlet abroad is giving a different indication which could have a knock-on effect.

Italian newspaper La Nazione is claiming Aubameyang has emerged as Fiorentina's top summer target to strengthen their attack.

The reports claim the club are preparing to try and beat Arsenal and PSG to the signing of the striker by making the first bid for the player ahead of this summer's transfer window, and made initial contact with St Etienne back in January.

What this means for Arsenal is that they stand a real chance of losing out on the striker if they do not act swiftly, but it also gives a clearer indication that Jovetic is likely to move on.

The Montenegrin has been non-committal over his future in the summer, insisting he will deal with it then, with it largely beyond his control, and just wants to for now concentrate on his game.

As both players are 23-years-old, Aubameyang would be a like for like replacement for Jovetic and leave them with plenty of change left over from any fee Fiorentina receive for their star player.

It gives Arsenal hope that despite Fiorentina's public posturing, they are ready to cash in on their star player. Now they need to make sure it is they who are his destination rather than Manchester City, Chelsea, or PSG.

Does this give Arsenal a boost in their hopes to sign Jovetic?
