News and gossip from The Emirates.
There is bad news on the Jack Wilshere front as it appears the ankle injury he picked up against Tottenham could keep him out of action until the end of the season. He has initially been ruled out for six weeks with a minor recurrence of the same injury that kept him out for 16 months before this season got under way.
It was originally reported he would miss three weeks with an inflammation problem of both his ankles but that prognosis has now become more severe and we may not see Wilshere again until the start of next season.
Any potential deal to bring in David Villa from Barcelona now appears to be dead in the water as Barcelona look set to offer the 31-year-old a new contract with his current deal expiring in 14 months’ time.
Spain’s record goalscorer has been linked with a move away after falling down the pecking order in recent months but he has been reintroduced to the first team as a strike partner of Lionel Messi’s in their latest run of good results.
Arsenal are expected to break the club transfer record this summer when they make an ambitious bid to sign Montenegrin forward Stevan Jovetic from Fiorentina. The 23-year-old is apparently available for around £20 million and Wenger is ready to splash the cash on a player he has been monitoring for a number of seasons.
He will however face big competition for the young player as Juventus and Manchester City are both also being strongly linked with his signature.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley was in the stands watching the striker against PSG this weekend and Arsenal have also been strongly linked with his signature along with Chelsea.
The Gabon international said he was ready to move to a ‘top club’ but then went on to admit that he it would be ‘nice’ to partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic which has fuelled rumours of a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Pole has recently lost his number one spot at The Emirates to countryman Lukasz Fabianski after a string of uninspiring performances.
However the 22-year-old stopper insists he is going nowhere unless told otherwise.
Finally and Ryo Miyaichi may get another chance to show his talents at the DW Stadium next season as Roberto Martinez admits he would like to bring him back next year. The young Japanese winger has seen his season decimated by injuries but Martinez would like to give him another go next season.
