On top of the Manchester interest there are Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Newcastle and AC Milan targets in the list of almost absurd rumours.
Either Monaco are seriously going to start doing a Paris Saint-Germain and start buying everyone within sight or the press have cottoned on to a new mediocrely rich side that they can start banding names to willy-nilly.
It happened with Anzhi Makhachkala; it happened with Malaga and now it appears Monaco are ready to blow Europe off the map with their transfer dealings this summer.
That’s if you buy into the rumour mill.
The club certainly have a wealthy investor and chairman in the form of Russian Dmitry Rybolovlev. His business acumen with companies such as fertilizing product Uralkali saw him finish 93rd on Forbes Billionaire list of 2011.
However he has not been throwing silly money at the club; instead preferring to build a successful self-sustaining model at the club which has been commended by the French Football Federation.
So while the thought of the current Ligue 2 leaders buying their way into competition with PSG next season is tempting perhaps reserve such judgements for the time being.
Here are TEN big names linked with signing for Monaco recently…
Carlos Tevez - Manchester City
The first really eye-catching name would have been the Argentine. He is reportedly still unsure of his future at The Etihad and Monaco are reportedly ready to test his resolve this summer.
Wayne Rooney - Manchester United
This might be when the Monaco rumours started to ‘jump the shark’ to borrow a television phrase. The idea of Rooney deciding to head over to the principality seems pretty ludicrous to us and is surely a sensational tale of fantasy.
Diego - VfL Wolfsburg
Part of a clutch of players linked with the club by French press this week this one is almost believable. Times are tough for the Beatle-haired playmaker and a change of scenery could suit him.
Robinho - AC Milan
Yeah sure he is not as good as he was post Manchester City but I think we all know he plans on returning to his beloved Santos as soon as possible.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Saint Etienne
The Gabonese striker fuelled the rumour himself by suggesting he may not leave Ligue 1 this summer. Interest from the Premier League is high but the likelihood remains he will stay at St Etienne if they make it into the Champions League this season.
Stephane Ruffier - Saint Etienne
A graduate of the Monaco youth system so perhaps Ruffier would consider a return.
Yet again if Saint Etienne make the Champions League it seems highly unlikely.
Josuha Guilavogui - Saint Etienne
Please read the two above. If Les Verts miss out on Europe then peut-être .
Maxine Gonalons - Olympique Lyonnais
The French international could consider leaving the shaky foundations at Lyon for Monaco but with interest reported from around Europe a move elsewhere still seems more likely.
Lisandro Lopez - Olympique Lyonnais
Depends on foreign interest as the likes of Fiorentina, Juventus and Spurs have all been linked with the Argentine who is unhappy playing out-wide at the Stade Gerland.
Joao Moutinho - Porto
Ambitious but again surely flawed. Moutinho will be clambering to play in the Champions League next season something not even the riches of Monaco can buy just yet.
Do you think Monaco will sign any of these players in the summer?
