Many Chelsea fans will already be looking forward to the summer when they can replace two out of favours Spaniards at their club, with Rafa Benitez and Fernando Torres expected to be shown the exit door come the end of the season.
The man they are hoping to bring in to lead their attack is Radamel Falcao, the prolific Colombian who is expected to leave Atletico Madrid this summer. Real Madrid were reportedly one of Chelsea's biggest rivals to his signature, so the reports in the Spanish press that suggest he has a clause in his contract that would make it more difficult for them to sign him will be cheering to Blues fans.
Falcao's transfer fee is likely to be around €60million, but if Real Madrid want to sign him they will have to pay €15million more than that, taking the already inflated fee into the comprehensively ridiculous area.
Real Madrid have, of course, stumped up huge fees before, but they might take the view that handing €75million to their neighbours is a little too much to take.
The close race between the two sides in La Liga this year has made their rivalry all the more fierce, and Atletico have never been willing to sell their stars to Real Madrid in the past. Sergio Aguero is one example of this, with the Argentinian striker ending up at Manchester City instead.
There have been some suggestions that Aguero would have preferred to go to Real Madrid but had to go somewhere else first such was Atletico’s reluctance to sell to their neighbours, but those suggestions did come via Diego Maradona, so must be taken a with a pinch of salt.
Whatever the reasons, Chelsea will be delighted to take any advantage they can in the race for Falcao's signature.
All they need to do now is cross their fingers and hope an 'anti-PSG' clause turns up as well.
