Romelu Lukaku has a very big future in the game if his early form at West Brom is anything to go by.
Chelsea hold all of the power because they own him and the player himself has said that he wants to become a Chelsea legend, if he’s given the chance to do just that.
Chelsea are apparently running the risk of losing their Belgian striker to Arsenal, a team that have snapped up young players from rivals in the past and a club that are perfectly suited to turning those players into superstars.
The major overlying reason as to why Chelsea cannot allow this to happen is because of his refreshing attitude and his basic approach to the game.
He may only be 19-years-old but any Chelsea fan will happily admit, he talks as though he’s been playing Premier League football for well over a decade.
In a world where so many young players abuse their positions, as they earn large sums of money as teenagers, this is something Chelsea need to cling onto because they will struggle to replace it.
He’s the exact opposite of this and you never read or hear about him away from the field, which is a compliment to the way Chelsea have already handled him and the way Steve Clarke has used him at West Brom.
He’s also the exact sort of striker the club have been missing since Didier Drogba originally left to go and play in China.
He is physically built like a monster and he’s only going to get quicker, stronger and cleverer with more care and attention, which Chelsea need to lay onto him over the next one or two years.
He was signed from Anderlecht with a big reputation as an exciting talent and was prematurely thrown into the Chelsea first team where he seemed to struggle with the pace, pressure and expectation linked with the club.
He’s now proven at West Brom that if he’s given time to think about his game and the chance to play, he can provide a decent strike rate; 13 goals in 26 Premier League games which will only get better.
The most likely scenario is that he’ll spend another season on loan at West Brom unless the new manager at Chelsea this summer decides he can use him in the first team on a regular basis.
It’s a little unclear as to why the rumours surrounding a possible move to Arsenal have developed, but Chelsea should give Lukaku whatever he wants to keep him happy, giving him no reason to move to the North of London.
Chelsea fans, what do you make of the rumours? A load of hot air?
