Nani has made a promise to Manchester United and the club’s fans to prove his worth over the remainder of the season.
Nani has had to endure a mixed season, which saw him in and out of the side at the start of the campaign leading to speculation that the club would sell him this coming summer.
However, Sir Alex Ferguson has used him for important games in recent weeks and he has responded well to being given a chance, which he may not have though he’d get again.
He’s promised to show his worth over the rest of the season and he needs to ensure he does a number of things through his performances to make himself indispensible to the club.
Firstly, he has to be less of a selfish player because he’s been guilty in the past of making basic errors such as shooting when a simple pass has been on and looking to go on a blazing run when more time on the ball and composure has been needed.
He also needs to carry on working on his basic skills as a winger, which have already improved since he originally joined the club.
This means key aspects of his game such as crossing and dead ball delivery. United have some very good aggressive players in the air such as Jonny Evans, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and plenty of others.
If Nani can become the best wide player at the club in terms of how he puts that ball into a pinpoint area, then Sir Alex Ferguson will never have any reason to ever drop him again.
His decision making in the final third is also any area which he could improve and it’s not just a simple case of passing and taking shots on goal.
It’s his movement off the ball which sometimes causes him some criticism because he can do much more when he’s not in possession, which will help other players in terms of their movement and the space he creates.
He also needs to get his contract situation sorted out quickly because if he causes too much trouble, the club will not pay him much more attention and Ferguson will drop him.
This will be extremely counter productive and will ensure that the club looks for a potential buyer in the summer, meaning Nani has wasted his final chance to become a United legend.
He doesn’t have many tweaks to make but in a side with so many good wide players, he has to find ways to make himself first choice consistently.
How do you think Nani can make himself indispensible to Fergie?
