As the season winds down, there will be more emphasis on the Player of the Year award and there are several players who won’t win but deserve a mention.
It is one of the most prestigious awards that any individual in the English game can receive. It looks like it’s going to be a straight toss up between Luis Suarez and Robin Van Persie but who are the other stars that deserve a mention?
The big Belgian is likely to leave Everton at the end of the season but he has arguably been in better form than ever before. It’s the way he’s been able to bully opposition defences this season and grab 11 goals in 23 matches which is impressive for a midfielder.
Michu started this season with Swansea City having no experience of English football and no idea over what the pace and strength of the Premier League was all about. He started, and continued, with a bang and has a current record of 15 goals in 27 matches which other strikers will dream of.
Cazorla came into the Arsenal team under pressure because the club had just sold Robin Van Persie and needed to transform the midfield and attack of the side. He has fitted in straight away and is one of the best technically gifted midfielders in the Premier League scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.
Benteke has arguably had it harder than anyone else because of the fact he plays for Aston Villa. He’s not had everything his own way but his been the figurehead of the Villa attack when many have questioned why he’s in the side ahead of Darren Bent. He’s come up with 12 goals in 26 matches since signing for the club.
Another Swansea player and this time it’s a central defender. Williams has been the first choice centre back in a side which has not consolidated as Premier League club and won its first piece of silverware in over 100 years via the League Cup. There is talk Williams could sign for one of the top clubs in England, which is a compliment to his consistency.
Who do you think deserves a mention?
