Liverpool latest: Including Reina and Allen

All of the latest Liverpool news.

Lucas has revealed that he believes Liverpool’s Champions League dream is still alive. Liverpool are sitting in six and need a remarkable run of wins with other teams slipping up to make fourth place, which is currently held by European champions Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers says he is hopeful that Pepe Reina will be fit in time for the Premier League clash against Southampton. Reina missed the win over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend due to a calf problem, which he is still struggling with as Brad Jones gets ready to step in.

Steven Gerrard has suggested that Luis Suarez would be the greatest player never to win the Player of the Year award for the Premier League, if he is beaten at the post. Suarez is being strongly tipped to lift the award as he’s currently the top scorers in the Premier League this season.

Joe Allen is set for three months out of the game to have surgery on a troublesome shoulder problem. Allen has been playing through the pain barrier in several matches this season, often criticised for the inconsistencies he’s shown at the club since making a big money move from Swansea City. Liverpool have issued an official statement on their website about his fitness.

Reports on the continent are claiming Liverpool are chasing Malaga playmaker Manuel Iturra, who is out of contract at the end of the season, and deal is said to be close.

Raheem Sterling and Suso both scored in the 3-3 draw against West Ham United Under-21s. Both players have recently been dropped from first team action at the club and both are staking strong claims to fight their way back into the senior side on a regular basis.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to go after £6 million Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Jeremy Menez. Menez has failed to hold down a regular place at PSG this season, which could see him sold in the summer as he’s only got a year left to run on his current contract.

Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp has strengthened claims that Luis Suarez should be named Player of the Year. His comments echo those recently made by club captain Steven Gerrard who suggested Suarez was clearly the best player at the club so far this season.

Liverpool are getting closer to the signing of 16-year-old Hungarian defender Kristof Polgar. Polgar has spent time at Liverpool on more than one trial, which has seen him impress Brendan Rodgers to the point where he is about to earn himself a permanent stay at the club.

Pepe Reina continues to be linked with a summer switch to Arsenal despite widespread rumours that Arsene Wenger ill try and sign Victor Valdes from Barcelona. If that deal happens then there are still suggestions that Reina could move back to Spain, meaning multiple routes out of Anfield.
