Should Manchester City offer Lescott in a Fellaini bid?

Marouane Fellaini

If Manchester City want Marouane Fellaini, then they could use Joleon Lescott to ensure that they get him.

Marouane Fellaini is more than likely on his way from Everton this summer, after stating earlier in the season he’d stay if the side finished with Champions League football.

As that’s now not going to happen, it means the big Belgian may be forced to look for a new club if he doesn’t want to go through the rest of his career without having another crack at Europe’s elite competition.

If Manchester City feel they need or want him, then they could offload Joleon Lescott the other way, as Everton boss David Moyes has always said he would be interested in re-signing Lescott if he had the chance to do so.

Lescott has been surplus to requirements at Manchester City this season, which is surprising because he played a major role in the side last season as they secured the Premier League title.

He wants to play for England regularly and at 30-years-old he can’t afford to do too much more sitting around on the bench while younger players stake more of a claim for an international starting place.

He does only have one-year left on his current contract with Manchester City which means there will be a fee involved which increases the chances of Everton using a player in part exchange because they don’t have a bottomless pit of cash to spend.

It seems like a natural deal which could be on the cards but it depends on how much City want to go after Fellaini because they already have a massive midfielder, in the form of Yaya Toure.

They are effectively two of the same player although Toure has more technical skill and a greater knack of scoring prettier goals inside the opponent’s final third.

It would be a like for like signing if City brought him to the Etihad and it may not be appealing to Fellaini because he will want to go to a club, where he is the undoubted heavyweight in the middle of that team.

He’s also made it clear that he wants to play Champions League football which places pressure on Roberto Mancini to use him in that tournament, straight away from the start of next season.

If he’s a player city want, they will get him but they can solve another problem at the same time if Everton feel the same way about Lescott.

How do you think the future of these players will unfold?
