Thierry Henry could help Arsenal as they go after a couple of high profile stars from Barcelona this summer.
Arsenal are using former player Thierry Henry to try and push for deals from Barcelona, according to the national press.
Victor Valdes and Alexis Sanchez have both been linked with big money moves to the Emirates Stadium and there’s absolutely no harm in Arsenal using one of their former players to try and engineer any deals.
Henry played with Valdes during his time at the Nou Camp, the pair are bound to have a decent relationship so it gives Arsenal another way in as Valdes may be reluctant to talk to officials until his contract at the club has officially expired.
He’s also likely to still be in touch with several officials at Barcelona who he met and forged relationships with during his three year spell with the club.
That also gives Arsenal a sneaky little angle they can exploit if they do want to go after players such as Alexis Sanchez and David Villa, who they have both been linked with in the press.
Henry had a relatively successful spell during his time at Barcelona, scoring 35 goals in 80 games so he’s bound to still be a popular figure at the Catalan club.
It’s also very good experience for him because he’s expected to join the Arsenal staff, possibly as a scout or a player, once he’s retired from playing football in the United States of America.
Arsenal are in a position where they could match up against any other side in Europe in terms of straight up spending to sign these players, but the reputation and calibre of the club will be dented if they don’t finish in the Champions League this season.
Therefore, they need someone they know and can trust to do some ground work for them over high profile transfers, effectively selling a move to the North club and reflecting the positives of playing for the Gunners.
It’s almost like Henry will have to turn himself into a temporary agent but because of his career and his love for Arsenal, that’s not something he would object to doing if it helps out the club.
There is always going to be a lot of competition for some of Barcelona’s players, even the fringe stars. Arsenal are utilising a unique advantage that not all clubs interested in Valdes, Sanchez or Villa have and if it works, then it’s another Arsene Wenger engineered masterstroke.
Arsenal fans, do you agree it’s a good idea?
