Rafa Benitez was the choice of many a Liverpool fan to take over last summer, but for the owners to go for Brendan Rodgers instead.
Brendan Rodgers finally did it. On Sunday he secured a win against a 'top' side above Liverpool in the table, after threatening to any coming close on several occasions.
Combined with the heroic failure against Zenit, the Northern-Irishman was in danger of earning himself a reputation as a 'nearly man', but the win acts as a timely counter to such suggestions.
In fact right now with Liverpool looking like contenders to mount a late charge for a top four place, a long shot but still possible, fans may well feel as positive as they will have done at any point during his managerial reign.
He has added to the existing squad with Daniel Sturridge and Coutinho, has helped Luis Suarez blossom into the player supporters dreamed of him being, and he has even got Stewart Downing finding form. Incredible.
So this may be an appropriate moment to ask if there are any Liverpool fans who would still like Rafa Benitez back as manager.
In the wake of Kenny Dalglish's sacking last summer, a number of websites ran polls for fans to select their choice as boss. In almost every one the name at the top was Rafa Benitez, and in one more than 70 per cent voted in favour of the Spaniard.
Liverpool's owners FSG chose not to indulge supporters as they had done by bringing back Dalglish, electing to look forward rather than back.
They saw a young manager like Rodgers as the future, and so far he is attempting to make his mark in the very way they likely envisioned.
Sceptics argued FSG wanted a younger manager who will be more prepared to manager under financial constraints, rather than a more experienced head like Benitez who wouldn't be afraid to cause ructions and stick up for himself.
Benitez is currently swimming against the tide at Chelsea, tasked with what many see as the 'impossible job' to please Roman Abramovich, made doubly difficult by fans not giving him a chance.
His tactics and substitutions have been called into question by some Chelsea fans, but he got it right against old foes Manchester United at the weekend when he helped them fight back for an FA Cup draw.
He has announced he will be leaving Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, and has been linked with the Real Madrid managers job.
So let us ask the question, are there any Liverpool fans who would like to see the club move Rodgers aside and take their chance to bring back Benitez instead - Or has that ship well and truly sailed?
Is Benitez back to Liverpool a return which may simply never happen? Would you like it to? Has Rodgers earned his chance to continue moving forward?
