Why Arsenal must sign the ‘African Neymar’

Arsenal V Milan

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with Arsenal for weeks and there is a lot he could do for the current side next season.

Arsenal may have a chance to sign a player, who has earned the title as the ‘African Neymar’, from St Etienne this summer, a player who could drastically improve their side.

What Arsenal need for next season is an additional forward who can guarantee them goals and Aubameyang’s record suggests he can do just that.

He has 16 goals in 27 Ligue 1 games this season which shows he is consistent and he has a good eye for finishing tight chances. Arsenal have compensated for the loss of Robin Van Persie’s goals but none of the strikers at the club, have taken the bull by the horns and become the new star forward in the side.

He also adds height to the Arsenal attack which is significant because as things stand, Olivier Giroud is the only ‘target man’ sort of player the Gunners have in their squad.

Aubameyang could be very useful in terms of holding the ball up when Arsenal need to release pressure from the defence very quickly. This is where the side has struggled at times this season and it’s a clear reason for Aubameyang to be in the team.

He may even improve the build up play and the link play between the attacking players inside the opponent’s defensive third.

He has eight assists so far this season for St Etienne so he’s already used to getting involved, dropping off from the top of attack and drifting slightly wider to help other attacking players.

He also offers Arsenal discipline, which may be a concern for the Gunners before signing them because of his age.

He’s been booked on just one occasion so far this season, which effectively eradicates the chance that he’s going to get suspended at any point in a league campaign unless he does something extremely stupid.

He also offers Arsenal guaranteed chances to score goals; 95 shots in all matches this season which averages out at around three and a half shots per match. Not a bad ratio to have as a potential signing.

He’s also quick enough and skilful enough to be able to compliment and enhance the ability of other quick players in the side. He should be able to keep up with someone like Theo Walcott which means he could be like lightning on the counter attack.

His current deal at St Etienne doesn’t expire for another three seasons but this lad could be the star, the talisman, the centre forward that Arsenal fans have been missing since the departures of Thierry Henry and Robin Van Persie.

Arsenal fans, what do you make of him? Should you be aiming higher?
