Everton will have to bring players in this summer, especially if they don’t finish fourth and lose key stars. The good news is they don’t have to pay for the privilege.
Everton are a club that have had to operate on a limited budget for a long time. David Moyes will be looking to make squad additions for next season, as the club could lose some high profile stars if the Toffees don’t secure Champions League football. Here are five players he could go after.
The Manchester City defender would add valuable experience to the back four and would provide much more depth alongside Sylvain Distin and Phil Jagielka. The only stumbling block with this free transfer is the wages that Toure is likely to expect from any side he joins, if he doesn’t stay at City.
They could go after Hangeland for the same sort of reasons. He’s a bigger and more physical defender and Everton could find a lot of competition from other sides for him. However, Everton are a step up from Fulham so he could find Goodison Park appealing.
Arshavin would add experience to the attacking side of Everton’s team and he would improve their build up and creative player. Again, wages are going to be the big factor in any potential deal but he’s ideal to sit in the middle of the Everton side and pull all of the strings.
It’s unlikely that Chelsea will offer Benayoun a new deal which means he’s one of the best technically gifted midfielders who will be up for grabs, for free this summer. He could be a versatile addition to the Everton squad and wouldn’t cost as much in terms of wages as several other options.
If Everton lose Marouane Fellaini then they will need to add height to the attack of their team and this is where Carlton Cole could come in. It won’t be an inspiring transfer for the fans but he’d be approached to do a very strict and specific job for Everton’s frontline.
Everton fans, which free transfers do you want to see at your club?
