Leighton Baines is one Everton player who may consider his future at the club if David Moyes walks away and the team don’t finish with European football.
Everton have a very big summer ahead of them which could see them entrenched in a fight to keep some of their most influential individuals. One player they must go all out to try and keep is left back Leighton Baines.
Baines is now 28-years-old and is running out of time to have a serious crack at Champions League football, which is the competition that all top professionals around Europe want to play in.
The club could consider enhancing his role and making him captain of the side, which may tempt him to stay on and drive the team forward over the next few years as he heads into the final stages of his career.
Another way they could tempt him to stay is by retaining the key players in the current first team.
Baines could be worried about Everton breaking up as a squad which will make it easier for him to decide he wants out at a later point. Keeping players such as Marouane Fellaini will have a big subliminal effect over him.
The club also has to try and keep David Moyes as manager and offer him a solid new contract. Baines has developed as a player and as a person since Moyes brought him to the club.
If Moyes goes then Baines will be losing that key influential figure in his personal and professional life, which will make it easier for him to follow Moyes onto his next job or to simply move onto another club.
Everton could convince him to stay with as much investment into the team as possible throughout the summer.
The club doesn’t have to go mad spending money it doesn’t have, it takes some key an simple decisions to try and get the best free transfers and the best youngsters in through the door.
Some form of European football is very important to Everton’s chances of not just keeping Baines but keeping all key players.
If Everton slip any further off the pace, they won’t be guaranteed European football for next season. That could be the final nail in the coffin for Baines and may mean the club has to find a new left back.
Everton fans, do you think Baines will leave if Moyes goes?
