Why Tottenham Hotspur don’t need Christian Eriksen

Tottenham and Liverpool are thought to be the two clubs interested in the Ajax play maker but Spurs simply don’t need him.

Tottenham continue to have a superb season which means they are going to be linked with various players as they apparently look to improve their team ahead of next year and the Champions League.

One such player they have been linked with is Christian Eriksen but it’s a transfer they don’t need to pursue because they don’t particularly need him.

Spurs are already blessed with a number of talented midfield players who can play various roles in the middle of the team, which means they don’t need another attack minded play maker.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is a player who can play a slightly wider role in the side as well as pushing up to support any main striker or strikers in the side when Spurs are building pressure.

Mousa Dembele is the sort of player Spurs can rely on to sit and hold in the middle. His power, pace and strength are all qualities that Spurs don’t need to replace and he seems to have gotten over fitness niggles from earlier in the season.

Lewis Holtby has come in and looks like the ultimate utility player. He can get stuck into the attack of the side as well as dropping off and doing the more ugly aggressive work to try and win back possession.

Tottenham have other priorities and areas which they need to address ahead of next season such as bringing in another striker and possibly adding a left back into the equation.

A striker is definitely needed to give the side more options in attack because they struggled when Jermain Defoe was out of the side with injury. A left back would allow Jan Vertonghen to concentrate on playing as a centre back and not having too stretch to a full back role.

Ultimately Eriksen is a player who would not exactly be cheap for Spurs. Liverpool are not the only other side who would possibly be interested in signing him and what that creates is a bidding war.

An internal bidding war, wages and bonuses, could force Spurs to drastically pay way over the odds for a player that they don’t necessarily need. Fortunately for the club, Daniel Levy has probably already realised this.

Spurs fans, who would you like to see come in this summer?
