Manchester City face Barnsley in the FA Cup sixth round this weekend. However Barnsley manager David Flitcroft claims his side’s trip to the Etihad is not his biggest game.
"I think the Leeds game was the biggest,” said Flitcroft who took over the reigns in December.
In team news, it is expected that captain Vincent Kompany will be rested for City’s FA Cup clash with Barnsley this weekend.
City defender Kolo Toure could be offered an extension to his contract after putting in some solid performances at the back in recent weeks.
The 32-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season.
Javi Garcia insists that City can still catch Manchester United and retain the Premier League title, despite being 12 points behind the leaders.
“We are Manchester City, we need to fight until the final game. We will fight for this Premier League title,” explained the Spaniard.
City beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Villa Park on Monday thanks to a goal from striker Carlos Tevez.
“He is back to his best and he scored a fantastic goal against Chelsea and I think he's been great all season. His work-rate is fantastic.”
Meanwhile, manager Roberto Mancini has called for his team to put in a perfect 10’ and win al available points in their remaining league fixtures.
“There are 10 games left and we will need to win them all. But why not? Things can change in the last second,” said the Italian coach.
Youngster Jack Rodwell was injured in City’s clash with Villa this week and Mancini now faces something of a selection dilemma ahead of the weekend’s fixture.
"We are very disappointed for Jack with his hamstring," Mancini said. "Maybe he will be back in three or four weeks,” conceded the manager.
In transfer news, The Guardian reports that City will not move forward with plans to lure Wayne Rooney to the Etihad from Manchester United.
However, fresh reports have emerged that City striker Edin Dzeko could make a Bundesliga return to Borussia Dortmund where he is being linked with a transfer in the summer.
The Mirror claims that City are ‘eyeing up’ Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson as reports surrounding City’s interest in Malaga youngster Isco continue.
Alvaro Negredo is another name being linked with a move to City. However, according to reports City will face competition from Tottenham for his signature thought to be valued around £15.5 million.
City could also face competition from Napoli if they wish to sign Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona this summer.
In other news, City have applied to participate in an expanded FA Women’s Super League in 2014.
Finally City youngster Courtney Meppen-Walter has been jailed for 16 months for careless driving which caused the deaths of siblings Kulwant Singh and Ravel Kaur when his Mercedes hit their car in September.
The 18-year-old was also banned from driving for three years.
