Jose Mourinho’s behaviour after Real Madrid’s win against Manchester United, has led to further suggestions he wants to become the boss at Old Trafford.
Love him or loathe him Jose Mourinho has a core set of skills which have made him successful wherever he has been. That success is something that the following Manchester United manager will have to adhere to and there are many reasons why that person should be the Portuguese coach.
He’s a Winner
Mourinho has won trophies, the best trophies, at all of the club’s he’s been manager at. He knows how to win domestic titles routinely and he knows how to win the Champions League, arguably the most difficult of all tournaments to win. This is all something United expect and something they will crave.
He has a great relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson. Fergie is bound to have some sort of input over who replaces him at Old Trafford. This is unique because that probably wouldn’t happen at any other club. His close relationship with Ferguson is a reason he may get selected over anyone else.
As a tactician, there are few better in the game. Mourinho can read a game and make quick changes, which go a long way to making the difference over 90 minutes. His teams don’t always play the best football but he finds a method to win a match and for United winning is all that matters.
Mourinho wouldn’t try to change the infrastructure of the team or the club too much. He would get United playing different football but he’s always used a ‘if it’s not broken, don’t fix it’ sort of mentality which he’d use at United. This would pacify those worried about him completely changing United as a club.
Mourinho’s recent record over the Guardiola-created Barcelona team is very good. It proves that he can get any team he’s in charge of beating the very best opposition that any other club can come up with. This is significant for United who have sometimes struggled in that situation.
United fans, Mourinho or Guardiola?
