At last, some positive news over Gareth Bale’s future

Bale Battles V Madrid

Spurs are reportedly ready to make Gareth Bale their best paid player with an £8 million per year new contract.

Some Spurs fans may have started thinking Gareth Bale was destined to leave the club this summer, amid some of the reports suggesting ridiculous transfer fees and some of the best football teams ever seen.

However, according to several online media reports, the club are going to try and get him to sign on, which could make him unbuyable over the next couple of years.

The fact the club are a shoe-in for the Champions League next season is very significant because it means Bale doesn’t have to jump ship if he wants to play in Europe’s elite competition.

His profile in the side is also greater than it’s ever been. Should he leave to go and play for Real Madrid or another massive side, he’s always going to be under pressure until he starts performing.

At Spurs, he has a guaranteed place in the first team, teammates that seem to love him and fans who idolise him and will probably call for a stature of him if he stays at White Hart Lane for his career. Why would he give any of that up?

His form is also breathtaking at the moment; 16 goals in 24 Premier League matches. He would risk that form by moving away from a club where he not only knows the playing system, but is a fundamental part of it.

He’s also shown no indication that he wants to move away from the club at the end of this season or at any point.

This is significant in the context of a new contract because if the rumours are true and an official offer becomes a reality, he’s much more likely to sign it than if he’d publicly stated that he was looking for a way out of the club to take on a new adventure.

Daniel Levy has always ensured that Spurs are run as efficiently as possible in terms of the business side of things.

They will not shoot themselves in the foot with a £40 million contract if it’s something which is ultimately going to cause more problems than it’s worth. The point is Spurs fans can trust Levy to try as hard as possible and create the best deal possible to get Bale to stay exactly where he is.

Spurs fans, do you think he’ll sign a new contract or move?
