Arsenal latest: Including Vermaelen and Song rumours

News and gossip from The Emirates.

Arsene Wenger has explained his worry in regards to how his team deals with the blow of defeat. The Frenchman claims he himself is not worried about the possibility of beating Bayern Munich but more worried about the mental state of his players should they go out of the competition. With the Champions League places still in their sights he hopes a potential loss will not affect the Premier League title run-in.

One of the goalscorer’s for Bayern in that fixture was Mario Mandzukic and the Croatian international has made it very clear that the historically ‘arrogant’ Bundesliga outfit will not be taking the game at the Allianz next week lightly. While he maintained his confidence in the team’s ability to win the game in Bavaria he has stated that conceding an early goal could see the tide of the tie change dramatically.

Thomas Vermaelen may be on his way out of the club this season as they look set to cash in on the out-of-sorts Belgian. The club captain has struggled for form in recent months and Barcelona are reportedly interested in bringing him in as a replacement for the ageing Carles Puyol. Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is also a transfer target for the Catalan side.

One player who could be heading from Barca back to Arsenal is Alex Song. The Cameroonian has struggled for games in Spain this season and is reportedly looking for a move away from the Nou Camp in the summer with Arsene Wenger reportedly considering his return. It remains unclear if his current deal at Barca contains a buy-back clause. PSG will also look into a potential deal this summer.

Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell wants to remain in Spain next season. The Costa Rican striker has had a good 2013 with Real Betis and would like to remain in Seville for the 2013-14 season. Arsenal can apply for a work permit again this summer and if this request is rejected he would like to remain in La Liga with the Pepe Mel managed side.

Arsenal are reportedly after Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol. The Spanish international has lost his place in the Madrid side behind Pepe and Raphael Varane and featured just 10 times this season.

One of Arsenal’s youngsters will spend a significant amount of time on the side-lines after suffering a serious knee injury while playing for Millwall on loan. 20-year-old striker Benik Afobe has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and could be out for a minimum of six months.

Finally and despite Arsenal’s joy at winning their NextGen Series game against Inter Milan there has been a negative story coming from the fixture as it appears some sections of Inter fans racially abused some of Arsenal’s black players.
