Chelsea latest: Including Steaua team news and Gomez

A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.

Chelsea trio Victor Moses, Ramires and Demba Ba have not travelled with the squad for their Europa League match with Steaua Bucharest tomorrow night. Moses and Ramires are being rested ahead of the FA Cup match with Manchester United at the weekend, while Ba is cup tied. John Terry might also not be risked in the match.

The Romanian side’s goalkeeper, Ciprian Tatarusanu, has said that Steaua have proven they can match anyone in the competition, although Chelsea will provide a sterner test than their regular league opposition:

"Sure, it will be much harder than a game against a top Romanian side - we are talking about 'Europe's queen' - and I have no doubt I will have much more work to do than against a 'normal' European team.

"As we proved in the two games against Ajax, we can be a match for anyone, no matter who they are.”

David Luiz has said that he is desperate to help Chelsea win the Europa League this season, and he doesn’t care if he does that playing in midfield or at the back. Luiz also said that fatigue would not be an issue, despite Chelsea’s punishing schedule.

Chelsea chief executive has said that qualifying for next season’s Champions League is the clubs main priority. Gourlay also reiterated that Rafa Benitez will only stay at the club until the summer.

On HITC today Jenny Leigh asks whether Chelsea could get Roberto Di Matteo back in charge at Stamford Bridge. We also look at the reported Chelsea target Bernard, a young Brazilian who could become a big a star as Neymar in the next few years, and how Romelu Lukaku is planning a big future at Chelsea.

Yossi Benayoun has said he is keeping his options open ahead of becoming a free agent at the end of the season. Chelsea are unlikely to offer the midfielder a new deal, and the current speculation suggests that Benayoun could move to Russia.

Chelsea are reportedly considering making a bid for Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez, who could be allowed to leave the German giants this summer. Gomez has struggled with injuries this season, and the form of Mario Mandzukic has kept him out of the team in recent months.
